I'm still here
I have been really bad about blogging for some times now. I go weeks, if not months at a time without a single word.
So I'll do a quick run down.
My sister had a baby last month. That was the baby in the last post on Aug 24th. Her name is Lily, she is perfect. She makes me all squishy and I love her to bits. The is the 5th best baby ever, only after my 4 children.
Navy man did in fact become non Navy man. But he will still be called Navy man. It is just easy. Now that he is around more, we get to spend time together. This is something new and fun, and it only took almost 12 years of being together to get to do stuff together. Like tonight, we went out on date night, and I totally wooped him at go-karts, even tho he tried to cheap by ramming, non-stop during the whole race. The kids love having there dad home all the time to.
I am having knitting ADD in a big way. I have about 5 projects, 3 being socks, nothing is even close to done.
I am waiting on the yarn to finish one. I bought some stuff about a year ago, and I swatched for a project last week, only to find I was short by about 250 yards. I then found in my hunt for the yarn, it is now discontinued. After looking online, on Ravelry and asking my friends, I found the 4 balls I needed online. So I hope it shows up soon. It is getting hear and I want to make the wrap it is going to become now!
That's all for now. I must go to bed.

Look at me, two posts in a week!
We got some exciting news Friday. Navy man got a job on base with the DOD (Department of Defense). So in a few weeks he will be a civilian again! It will be the first time in over 15 years. If you are keeping track, yes, he's been in 15 years, and retirement is at 20, but they jacked around his expected separation date not one, but twice now due to his 7 months of inactive reserve time in the mid 90's making it so he has to do another 7 years of active duty to retire. At this point he has missed most of the last 10 years with the family and mainly his children. As a family, being together is more important then some money and ify benefits. (I can say that about the benefits, I've been using them for over 10 years, and ya they are free, but you get what you pay for).
He missed the birth of 1 of his children, was home 6 days after one, 2 months after another, and 2 weeks after the last. I have been torn about this whole thing. But then he was at work until 4am last night due to who knows what. He is suppose to be off at 10:30 pm. This is a common theme, and we hardly get to see him, and we would rather he be home.
We are getting ready to head back to the house in Nebraska to do some much needed work that has fallen to the bottom of the list. We are getting ready to sell it. So we have to bust our arse and get it ready in about 10 days. School starts soon and stuff, so we won't have time again for a while.
My sister is also suppose to produce my first niece any time now. I'm very excited. Not only for a new baby, but that she should have it while I am home so I can get out of helping with the really crappy stuff, like removing carpet. (I have a plan, don't tell Navy man).
I better get back to laundry and packing....

Homemade Vanilla Bean pudding
Ingredients
- 3cups skim milk
- 1 vanilla bean sliced open length wise with insides scrapped out
- 3 egg yolks
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup honey
- 3 tablespoons cornstarch
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon butter (optional)
Directions
In a heavy medium saucepan, bring Vanilla pod and insides that have been scrapped out and milk to boiling over medium heat, stirring occasionally.
- In the mean time whisk together egg yolks til lighter in color, about 1-2 mins. Whisk in sugar, honey, cornstarch and salt til well combine.
- Lower heat on milk so it doesn't boil over, and then temper eggs by adding about 1 cup of the hot milk to the eggs mixture. Whisk in hot milk til well combined.
- Add egg mixture back to hot milk in the pan. Increase heat to med, and whisk until milk is thick.
- Remove from heat, and strain mixture in to large bowl to remove any lumps, the pods and any other bits that aren't good to eat.
- Mix in butter if you so desire. (I didn't, I forgot and I don't need butter in my pudding)
- Let cool for about 15 min and either cover with plastic wrap so it is touching the top of the pudding, or pour in to 4 individual cups, cover in the same manner, and chill till cool and set.
- Do not mess with the pudding while it is cooling.
- Enjoy!
